The project began construction in September, 2013. With a designed speed of 200 kilometers per hour, the new railway, once operational, will enable citizens totravel between downtown Guangzhou and Qingyuan in around 40 minutes.

Stretching over 38 kilometers, the railway starts from Huadu station (花都站) in Huadu district and terminates at Qingcheng station (清城站) in Qingyuan city, passing through four other stations—Letong (乐同) and Shiling (狮岭) in Guangzhou, and Yinzhan (银盏) and Longtangzhen (or Longtang town) (龙塘镇) in Qingyuan.

Connecting with Guangzhou Metro Line 9 and Guangzhou East Ring Intercity line (Huadu - Airport North) (广州东环城际), the Huadu station will offer interchanging services, allowing passengers to travel to Baiyun International Airport, which is also a station of Metro Line 3.

To date, some 20 bus lines in Qingyuan have been put in place, preparing to shuttle passengers between the rail stations of Qingcheng, Yinzhan and Longtangzhen and other parts of the city. A total of 29 bus routes are planned to offer services once the new line opens to traffic, including 16 connecting with Qingcheng station, 10 with Longtangzhen and 3 with Yinzhan.
