In an increasingly digital world, the role of community libraries is often undervalued. Community libraries may not be as popular as Guangzhou's dazzling central library in Zhujiang New Town, but some of the well-equipped and interesting ones are worth a visit.

Guangzhou Yuexiu Library 越秀区图书馆四阅分馆

Covering over 10,000 square meters, the library was established in December, 2017. Great efforts were made to embellish the cultural atmosphere of the library and create an artistic environment for readers, through elegant solid wood tables and chairs, artistic hanging lamps, beautiful succulent plants and roses. And thanks to cooperation between the library and Guangdong Xinhua Distribution Group, people can borrow the latest books sold in the nearby Xinhua bookshop without paying for them, as long as the books are on the library's borrowing list. At present, the library houses nearly 20,000 books.

Yuanchuang Coffee Library 黄埔区图书馆缘创咖啡分馆

Featuring spacious coffee shops, gym areas and a conference hall inside 1,000 square meters of space, this is the first community library in Guangzhou providing services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It offers a collection of about 14,000 books focusing particularly on scientific innovation and business start-ups. With a 15-meter long bookshelf and wooden stairs for sitting, as well as projection and audio equipment, the library provides a great stage for road shows of start-up businesses.
