Nine pieces of typical relics in Guangzhou Museum

The year of 2019 marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of Guazngzhou Museum. Located in Zhenhai Tower, Guangzhou's old city landmark, on the Yuexiushan Mountain, the museum has a collection of more than 130,000 pieces of relics, which represent the history and culture of Guangzhou.

Pith paper paintings were first sold in Guangzhou as popular "souvenirs from the East" mainly to foreign merchants and envoys in the Qing dynasty. Their motifs included every aspect of the lives in the Guangzhou port.

In Qing dynasty, many wealthy merchant families in western countries ordered porcelain ware from Canton, and asked such ware to be custom-made with special patterns or drawings they provided. As a result, armorial patterns of royal court, aristocrats, stories and armies were seen painted on customized porcelain, reflecting the identity and stories of the owner.

The verge board was found in Qiangangcun village of Conghua district. It displays Guangzhou's landscape and the hustle and bustle along the Pearl River.
