Starting May 16, 2011 Guangzhou will implant microchips in pet dogs. Dog owners can bring their pets to the city's pet hospitals for the operation.

The microchip is like an ID card recording the registered number, city and time. A microchip is the size of a rice grain and could be used at least 20 years. It is helpful in locating lost dogs and tracking the daily management of medical care. The microchip number is recognized worldwide. Dog owners can bring their microchip-implanted dogs to other countries and expect the benefits to follow.

The implanting process takes about two minutes. It is as simple as an infection to one ear. The implanting fee will be included in pet registration. Now about 40,000 pet dogs have been registered.
