A luxurious public toilet constructed with an investment of 400,000 yuan, or 58,520 US dollars, has been in use free of charge since mid-February in a scenic spot in Nanjing, in east China's Jiangsu province, China News Service reports.
Covering an area of over 100 square meters, this grand public toilet is located in the Nanjing Confucius Temple, the city's hallmark tourist resort for worshiping Confucius, a great thinker and educator of ancient China. It was recently transformed from an original common public toilet by the local government, in an attempt to address the needs of citizens and improve the overall tourism precinct.
Combining both modern and ancient styles, the high-cost toilet complex constitutes a male toilet, female toilet and a hallway. Installed inside are wash basins made from blue-and-white porcelain, wood-carved sliding doors in the style of the Ming and Qing dynasties and electric hand driers. Besides this, the hallway is equipped with lotus-shaped light fittings, a central air-conditioner, upholstered armchairs and a liquid crystal display television.
On top of the amazing hardware facilities, the high-class toilet also boosts an international service. All signs inside the toilet are written in four languages: Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean.
