A number of important relics unearthed from the imperial mausoleums are on display at the museum, including a green glass bottle which is said to be imported from Persia and many porcelain items. They are important physical evidence to Sino-foreign exchanges via the ancient Maritime Silk Road in Guangzhou.

The Southern Han Dynasty was a feudal regime in ancient China during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period (AD 907—979). It ran 55 years under four emperors. The Southern Han Dynasty established the capital in Guangzhou and built three imperial mausoleums: Zhaoling, Kangling and Deling there.

Kangling and Deling were officially excavated in 2003, and were cited as two of the Top Ten China Archaeology Discoveries in 2004.
