A monument commemorating ancient Chinese navigator Zheng He was unveiled in Salalah, the second-largest city in Oman, on May 30 to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the West Asian country.

The monument by the seaside, which resembles a sailing vessel, was designed by the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design and 3D-printed. The Guangzhou city government provided support for the building of the monument.A monument was unveiled in Salalah, Oman on May 30 to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Oman. In 1980, a replica of the ancient Omani wooden sailing ship Sohar sailed along the route taken by ancient Omani navigator Abu Obeida from the Omani capital Muscat to Guangzhou, Guangdong province. The journey lasted 231 days.

An Oman-funded monument commemorating the ship was erected in Guangzhou in 1995.

Guangzhou established a sister relationship with Dhofar, where Salalah is situated, in 2019.
