A strange new word is taking over social media — Chinamaxxing.

"Maxxing" is Gen Z slang for taking something to the extreme — like looksmaxxing or sleepmaxxing. So "Chinamaxxing" means becoming "as Chinese as possible".

What started as a joke — drinking hot water, practicing Baduanjin, watching Chinese dramas, and calling themselves "Chinese baddies" — is now moving offline.

More and more foreign visitors are coming to China, filming village banquets, high-speed trains, late-night convenience stores, affordable food, and everyday moments with strangers.

These videos don't tell the whole story of China. But they are giving millions of people firsthand encounters beyond the headlines.

Maybe that is the real meaning of "Chinamaxxing": not becoming Chinese, but choosing to come, see, and decide for themselves.
