On July 1, Brazilian tourist Roni and his friends became the first group of shoppers to experience Guangzhou's new paperless tax refund service at Buynow mall in Tianhe district. "So convenient! Such a great experience!" they said, after getting their refund on the spot within minutes — all they needed was their passports and digital receipts.

The service came as part of a broader rollout: Buynow was designated the city's fourth central tax refund hub. Overseas travelers who shop at any tax-refund store in Guangzhou can go to the centralized refund counter on the first floor of Buynow to process and receive their tax refund on the spot.

For many international visitors, the appeal goes beyond the refund itself. Chinese tech brands — known for their cutting-edge design and great quality — have become a major draw. Guangzhou, in particular, has emerged as a go-to destination for shoppers looking for the latest Chinese tech products.

The Buynow mall in Tianhe district is Guangzhou's largest and most comprehensive hub for electronics, smart devices, and tech products. It packs flagship stores from top homegrown names like DJI, Insta360, and Huawei, along with plenty of other popular brands.
