Cantonese Opera "Floral Princess" to be staged at Guangzhou's century-old theater!

On May 29 and 30, the 124-year-old theater in Guangzhou — Haizhu Grand Theater — will kick off its first public ticketed performance since renovation. To mark the 70th anniversary of the premiere of the Cantonese opera "Floral Princess" (《帝女花》), renowned Cantonese opera artists from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao will jointly present this timeless masterpiece. The show is also one of the key events of the 2026 Guangzhou Art Season.
The full opera consists of seven scenes, featuring six pairs of lead performers portraying Zhou Shixian (周世显) and Princess Changping (长平公主). Headlined by National Class-A Actors and Plum Performance Award winners, the show also brings together outstanding young performers. While faithfully recreating the classic roles, the cast adopts youthful interpretations — offering audiences a cultural feast of exceptional artistry and immense appeal to opera enthusiasts.
