Guangzhou's cultural and tourism market saw a strong surge during the 2026 May Day holiday. The city rolled out over 1,000 events across seven major themes, including city walks, rural getaways, digital trends, performances, museum tours, and more.

The city received over 12.6 million visitor trips, with total tourism spending reaching 12.8 billion yuan — up 6 percent and 5.6 percent year on year, respectively.
On May 1 alone, the Guangzhou Metro recorded 12.39 million trips, ranking first nationwide and third in the city's history.

Online travel platforms such as Ctrip and Tongcheng listed Guangzhou among the country's top 10 destinations for holiday travel, hotel bookings and domestic trips. Baidu Maps data showed Guangzhou topped the list of domestic destinations for five consecutive days, and ranked first on May 2 among first-tier cities in China in terms of heat map density.
