On March 26, Guangdong released its first batch of pilot hospitals for international medical services, jointly announced by the Guangdong Provincial Health Commission, the Guangdong Provincial Healthcare Security Administration, and the Guangdong Provincial Medical Products Administration.

International medical services refer to high-quality, sustainable medical services for residents of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, foreign nationals, overseas Chinese, as well as people who pay out-of-pocket or hold international commercial insurance.

A total of 25 hospitals were selected, marking the official implementation of the pilot program.

These services are delivered in accordance with internationally recognized medical technology standards, service processes, management systems, and payment methods. Costs are paid by patients or commercial insurance, not covered by basic medical insurance.

In recent years, Guangdong has been attracting a growing number of international patients thanks to its high-quality medical services and its core geographical advantage in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Data shows that in 2025, the total number of international patients seeking medical treatment in Guangdong increased by over 20% year-on-year, with the demand for inpatient services surging by 76.05%.

The implementation of the international medical services pilot program aims to attract high-quality medical demand from abroad and better meet the diverse medical needs of patients.
