Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, launched the country's first cross-border RMB payment service for the housing provident fund on March 3. It is also the first public service nationwide to achieve cross-border RMB payment.

With the service, Hong Kong and Macao residents working in Guangzhou can receive their housing provident fund withdrawals directly into bank accounts in Hong Kong and Macao. They can apply for the service at the Tianhe and Nansha sub-branches of the Guangzhou Housing Provident Fund Management Center.

The move is expected to improve the living and working experience of Hong Kong and Macao residents in Guangzhou.
