China Railway Guangzhou Group, a major railway service operator in South China, has transported over 50 million passengers since the start of the annual Spring Festival travel rush, according to the railway group.
On February 24 alone, the 23rd day of the travel rush beginning on February 2, the group based in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, is expected to send 2.512 million passengers and receive 2.619 million passengers.
As companies resume operations and universities reopen after the Spring Festival holiday, there will be an overlap of workers, family visitors and students, resulting in sustained high passenger flow, according to the railway group's passenger transport department.
The department will meet the travel needs of passengers by adding more trains and operating additional units of high-speed trains.
On February 24, the group planned to operate 3,946 trains, with 1,419 high-speed train units running in multiple formations, and an additional 745 trains, of which 469 are nighttime high-speed trains.
Guangzhou Baiyun Station (广州白云站), one of the major railway stations in Guangdong, has enhanced transfer efficiency by adding new entrances and improving passenger waiting and travel facilities, enabling a five-minute rapid transfer within the station.
Additionally, the station has opened security-free channels for the metro and Guangzhou-Qingyuan intercity trains, reducing the railway-subway connection time to 15 minutes.
