Former Portuguese Minister of Employment : broad prospects for EU-China cooperation

During the 2025 Understanding China Conference (Guangzhou), Maria João Rodrigues, Former Portuguese Minister of Employment & President of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), stated in an interview with Guangzhou Daily that there is broad scope for cooperation between Europe and China, and that both sides should focus not only on competition but, more importantly, on collaboration.
Rodrigues expressed, "I believe that both Europe and China are big markets with high technological capacity, so there is a lot of room to cooperate, not only to compete but to cooperate." She emphasized that Europe and China are important global actors, adding, "If they work together to cope with global challenges, these will make a difference to the world."
