A village in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong province, has announced plans to offer a subsidy to villagers infected with Chikungunya and Dengue in an effort to encourage people to seek medical treatment and cooperate with disease control measures.

According to a notice published by the Nancun village committee on its social media account on October 9, eligible patients could receive 200 yuan (US$ 28) per day for their hospital stay, with the total subsidy capped at eight days (1,600 yuan).

The subsidy applies to patients who were diagnosed at one of the designated local clinics and had lived in the village for at least one month before diagnosis. To qualify, the patients must also have cooperated with the village's epidemic control efforts. Applications must be submitted within 10 working days after leaving the hospital.

A village official confirmed on October 9 that the subsidy policy is awaiting final approval.

Located in Baiyun district in Guangzhou, Nancun reported a collective income of more than 100 million yuan in 2024.
