2025 Guangzhou International Dragon Boat Invitational set to make a splash this Sunday!

The 2025 Guangzhou International Dragon Boat Invitational will take place on Sunday, June 1, along the Pearl River section between Sun Yat-sen University's North Gate Plaza and Guangzhou Bridge.


This year's event will feature 116 teams and over 4,000 athletes. Besides local university and district teams, the competition will welcome seven teams from sister cities (Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Qingyuan, Zhaoqing, Jieyang in Guangdong province and Longyan in Fujian province), 12 teams from Hong Kong and Macao, and seven international teams, bringing a vibrant global flavour to the races.


The main event will be the 22-person dragon boat 600-meter straight sprint, which will be divided into four categories: Men's Open, Women's Open, Men's International, and University. Spectators can also enjoy performances of traditional dragon boats, colorful dragon boats and roaming dragon boats, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Lingnan region.


Race day schedule


9 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Preliminary and semi-final races


2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.: Opening ceremony, finals, and awards
