Guangzhou's gaming industry set to shine globally with policy support

Guangdong has unveiled a major policy package to strengthen the competitiveness and global appeal of its cultural industry, following the opening of the 21st China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF) on May 22.

Notably, the package includes 13 measures to boost the online gaming industry, aiming to establish a "Guangdong-Made Game Global Matrix" and form a "Game Industry Overseas Alliance" to propel more locally developed games onto the international stage.

According to the 2024 Guangzhou Gaming Industry Development Report, Guangzhou's gaming sector generated revenues of 140.667 billion yuan, with overseas earnings reaching 19.058 billion yuan. The mobile game Puzzles & Survival, a global hit from 37 Interactive Entertainment, entered the top 10 on iOS revenue charts in 52 regions within a year of its launch.

Meanwhile, Guangzhou's gaming firms are merging cutting-edge technology with cultural storytelling. Trading Legend, the ancient-style mobile game developed by 37 Interactive Entertainment, draws inspiration from the iconic Northern Song Dynasty painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival. The game immerses players in Song Dynasty commerce, weaving traditional Chinese cultural elements — from core gameplay mechanics to world-building, narratives, settings, costumes and props — into every design layer.

With policy support and a profound industry foundation and notable talent advantages, Guangzhou's gaming leaders are confident that the city's online gaming industry will shine globally.
