According to the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway), the 2025 Spring Festival travel rush, known as Chunyun, will officially commence on January 14, 2025. Tickets for the first day of the travel period will go on sale starting from December 31, 2024.

To improve the travel experience for students during this peak season, the 12306 railway booking platform has launched a new feature for student ticket reservations, now available in the "Student Ticket Reservation Service" section of the app. From December 12 through February 12, 2025, eligible student passengers can reserve train tickets for travel between December 28, 2024, and February 28, 2025.

Each user account can simultaneously submit up to three orders, with each order including a maximum of five "train number + seat type" combinations for one travel date. Available seat types under the student discount include hard seats, hard sleepers, and second-class seats. A single reservation can cover up to nine student passengers, including the account holder.

This year's enhancements to the ticketing process aim to alleviate booking challenges and ensure smoother travel for students and other passengers.
