Nansha to hold its first marathon event

The 2024 Guangzhou Nansha (Bay Area) Half Marathon is set to begin on December 1, officials from the Nansha district government announced at a press conference on October 11.

This is the first marathon event to be held in Nansha, and local authorities will strive for excellence in competition scale, event organization, logistic support and runner service, positioning it as a high-level and high-standard sporting event.

The event consists of two races: the half marathon (about 21 kilometers) and a fun run (about 5 kilometers), with the number of participants capped at 10,000 and 5,000 respectively. Both races will start at 7:30 a.m. on December 1 from the Nansha International Cruise Home Port.

Half marathon runners will pass a number of scenic sites and landmark buildings along the way, such as the Puzhou Garden, Tianhou Palace, Binhai Park, and the Mingzhu Bay Bridge, through which they can feel the charm of Nansha.

To attract more young talents to Nansha and inject youthful vitality into the event, a university student group is especially set up, in addition to the public group and couple group.

The event’s visual design takes blue as the main color, symbolizing the modernity and openness, wisdom and knowledge of Nansha. The event logo adopts the idea of data chain, which is composed of 11 color blocks, representing the 11 cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. And the logo is shaped as a rudder, which implies that Nansha, as a port area, will continue to move forward.

The medal design is also full of creativity, featuring local landmarks such as the Nansha International Cruise Home Port, the Mingzhu Bay Bridge, the Permanent Site of the International Financial Forum, Nansha Library, Sampan Island lighthouse, and others.

The medals of the couple group are colored in blue and rose red, and can be ingeniously combined into one, which demonstrates the cooperation between the couple and the significance of two people finishing the competition together.
