Drones start delivering food in Guangzhou

BY :SilkRoadPost

UPDATED :2024-09-23

On September 15, a test flight of food delivery drone was successfully completed in Guangzhou Children's Park.

With the guidance of the Guangzhou Municipal Forestry and Landscaping Bureau and the Baiyun District Government, Guangzhou Children's Park is now actively exploring new application scenarios of the low-altitude economy.

During the test, a drone took off slowly from CapitaMall SKY+ (凯德广场), two or three minutes later, it landed steadily at the delivery center of Guangzhou Children's Park, where consumers received their food.

This not only marks the first successful trial operation of drone delivery route in Guangzhou's parks, but also is an in-depth exploration of the potential application scenario of the low-altitude economy.

How does it work?

Staff will deliver the meals from restaurants to the takeoff point at CapitaMall SKY+, and the drone will transport them to the landing point at Guangzhou Children's Park. Each delivery can carry up to approximately 9 kilograms of goods.

Currently, the meal delivery service is still in the test phase. Delivery time is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on a daily basis, with departure scheduled every 10 minutes, totaling 6 trips every day.

Want to try it out by yourself? Let's see how to use the service:

1. Use the WeChat mini-program "Song Ba Kong Yun" (“送吧空运”).

2. Select the products from available restaurants, and place your order.

3. Click on the "Recipient" section.

4. Fill in the delivery address and contact information, then complete the payment.

What's more, the first low-altitude flight route in Guangzhou's downtown area is about to open between Canton Tower and Haixinsha.

On September 13, Xpeng Aeroht's flying car successfully finished a cross-river demonstration flight from Canton Tower to Haixinsha. This marks another expansion of low-altitude urban flight application scenario by Xpeng Aeroht, following its earlier flight in Guangzhou's CBD this March.

In the future, a low-altitude flight testing network is expected to be constructed in Guangzhou, and more commercial application scenarios of low-altitude aerial vehicles will be developed.
