Many people travel to Guangzhou by high speed railway. Starting from Guangzhou Railway Station, SilkRoadPost recommends a classic day trip route to Guangzhou’s landmarks, using metro and buses.
1. Liuhua Lake Park
First, visitors can get off at Yuexiu Park Station on Guangzhou Metro Line 2, then take a ten-minute walk to Liuhua Lake Park, a European-style garden. Officially opened to the public in 1959, the park has one of Guangzhou’s four artificial lakes which covers a total area of 313,700 square meters.
2. Xihua Lu (西华路)
After enjoying Liuhua Lake Park, visitors can take bus Nos. 556, 109, 2 and get off at Renmin Beilu Station (人民北路), and explore authentic Cantonese delicacies and snacks on Xihua Lu, such as rice noodle rolls, fried dumplings, clay pot rice, and sesame paste.
3. Dafo Temple
When the stomach is satisfied with Cantonese gourmet food, visitors can take Guangzhou Metro Line 1 to Gongyuanqian Station, and admire the magnificent Dafo Temple on Beijing Lu Pedestrian Street in downtown Guangzhou.
4. Yanjiang Xilu (沿江西路)
To enjoy the riverside view at sunset in Guangzhou, visitors can take Guangzhou Metro Line 6 to Cultural Park Station, and explore Yanjiang Xilu. There are a number of historical buildings along the road, giving people a glimpse of the city’s prosperity in ancient times.
5. Yongqingfang
Visitors can walk to Xidi Wharf bus station and take a sightseeing bus to Yongqingfang, the last stop of the day trip. Yongqingfang area has the most beautiful qilou buildings in Guangzhou, and connects Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street in the east and Shamian Island in the south, a perfect place for a city walk. Popular tourist spots in Yongqingfang include the Cantonese Opera Art Museum and the home of Lee Hoi-chuen — the father of the late kung fu superstar Bruce Lee.
