Qixi Festival, also known as Chinese Valentine's Day, is around the corner.
To celebrate the upcoming festival, Guangzhou will held intangible cultural heritage week lasting from August 4 to 15 at a number of places.
The opening ceremony will take place at Qixi Square of Zhucun (珠村) in Tianhe district at 7 p.m. on August 4, the first day of the seventh lunar month, which will simultaneously be broadcast online through various media of different sub-venues.
Traditional rituals alongside with themed performances and Garden Party will be staged at the square at 8 p.m. on August 10 as well. The whole process is expected to last for around 60 minutes, during which conventional rites and craft techniques will be displayed.
From singing and dancing performances, to poem recitals by children and breathtaking ballet on shoulders, Lingnan culture will be exhibited via diversified live shows. Another highlight to draw visitors is a captivating drone performance creating marvelous patterns, which will inject new vitality into ancient traditions and provide a visual feast for audiences.
From August 4 to 10, visitors can experience folk customs by means of table setting and worshipping ceremony of Qixi Festival at five places, including Mingde Hall (明德堂) of Zhucun, the ancestral hall dedicating to the Northern Emperor (Beidi) and the Chen Clan Temple.
During the celebration period, through online platforms and on-site exploration, people can also probe into three routes consisting of historic and cultural sites together with tourist attractions located in Tianhe. The routes were co-designed by a total of 21 departments from culture, commerce and tourism sectors.
Inspired by the Bridge of Magpies, or Queqiao, fairs of different themes will be set up at Zhucun, Tianhe Link Plaza, Zhujiang Park and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to offer visitors a more immersive experience.
