Guangzhou is planning to build a world-leading smart and low-carbon riverside fitness belt as part of a project to improve the living environment along the banks of the Pearl River, which was approved by the Guangzhou Municipal Development and Reform Commission on July 19.
The project will include the construction of a 20-kilometer riverside jogging track, two demonstration blocks for 10,000-step slow walk, and four slow-life landscape areas each stretching about 100 meters.
The project's construction areas are set in Yuexiu, Haizhu and Liwan districts, such as Binjiang Lu (滨江路), Yanjiang Lu (沿江路) and nearby roads (from Renmin Bridge to Guangzhou Bridge). In addition, a pedestrian overpass of about 120 meters will be built above Haizhu Chong (海珠涌).
More facilities will be added along the jogging path to bring convenience to the public, such as toilets, seats, gym equipment, lockers, first aid boxes, a skateboarding area and a sports area.
