Kapok flowers signal a beautiful spring in Guangzhou

Springtime in Guangzhou looks like a scene from a painting. Hailed as the "Flower City", Guangzhou boasts a diverse range of flowers all year round. Hence, admiring flowers has become one of the most sought-after tourist activities in the city, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors from across the country to partake in the unique experience.

In spring, the vibrant red kapok flowers sway gracefully in the breeze, creating a picturesque landscape against the backdrop of modern buildings.

Kapok, also known as "hero flower", usually blooms from mid-January to March in Guangzhou. The main viewing spots for this natural spectacle in Guangzhou include Ersha Island, Zhujiang Park, Dongshan Lake Park, Haizhu Bridge, Lingyuan Xilu (陵园西路), and Yuejiang Xilu (阅江西路).

Besides, kapok flower is also a beloved ingredient for soup and porridge in Guangdong, which can dispel excessive moisture from the body. It is a frequent sight to see local residents, including children and seniors, collecting fresh kapok flowers from the ground during the season.
