On the occasion of the Chinese Lantern Festival, which fell on February 24 this year, the annual Guangfu Temple Fair kicked off at Beijing Lu commercial block in Yuexiu district of Guangzhou, with a multitude of folk culture performances and a grand parade marking its opening.

More than 300 performers in 12 teams paraded through the landmarks on Beijing Lu, displaying various intangible cultural heritage items in the Lingnan region, such as dragon and lion dances, Cantonese opera, and horse dance from Guangdong's Zhaoqing city.

Local folk song and dance performances, talent show, youth martial art performance, and showcase of traditional Chinese costumes, the dragon boat tradition in Guangzhou's Yangji village (杨箕村) and Cantonese marriage customs were also highlights of the parade.

The cultural feast attracted more than 30,000 onlookers on the first day. And a host of fun activities and brilliant performances will be coming up during the seven-day temple fair.

In addition, special booths are set up for visitors to learn more about traditional craftsmanship, intangible cultural heritage items, and traditional Chinese medicine in the Lingnan region, shop for creative and cultural products, and try authentic Cantonese food as well as other distinctive cuisines in Guangdong province and across the country.
