During recent years, a number of art spaces have sprung up in Yuexiu district of Guangzhou. Now please follow SilkRoadPost to take a quick look at them.
1. JC Cartoon Art Museum
Address: No. 58 Taojin (淘金) Lu
JC Cartoon Art Museum boasts various authentic manuscripts and freehand sketches from home and abroad, including over 5,000 copies of cartoons. The museum is divided into three areas, which house comic works created by artists from China, Japan and western countries. Rambling into the exhibition hall, one may notice a full-length statue of Old Master Q (老夫子), a comic character created by the famed cartoonist Alfonso Wong in 1962.
Celluloid pieces of classic Chinese animations like Uproar in Heaven, Mr. Black and Calabash Brothers can be found in the exhibition area, all of which were produced by Shanghai Animation Film Studio. Also on display are celluloid pieces of Snow White and manuscripts of American comic book series Batman and Donald Ducks together with a poster of The Adventures of Tintin.
For the enthusiasts of Japanese comics, autographed copies and celluloid pieces of well-known animations are amongst the exhibits as well, such as Doraemon, Spirited Away and Totoro.
2. Shining Art Museum
Address: No. 1 Zhongdao, Dongshanhu (东山湖) Park, Donghu Lu
Shining Art Museum is a two-story building designed with a functional room, a cultural and creative product area, a restaurant and an open-air space.
Two ancient trees taking deep root in the soil run through the building and reach the roof, allowing visitors to appreciate the bud burst and fallen leaves from inside. The museum is also equipped with a lakeside café for people to take a rest.
3. Moshang Huakai Culture and Art Space
Address: Yuexiu Park, Yuexiu Beilu
Moshang Huakai Culture and Art Space is situated at a white glassed-in building in Yuexiu Park. Surrounded by trees, the space has several sections, including a reading area, a café and an exhibition hall, welcoming visitors with scented books, flowers, tea and coffee.
