The 2023 Spring China (Guangzhou) International Tea Expo, abbreviated as the Guangzhou Tea Expo, kicked off on May 25 in Zone D of the Canton Fair Complex. 

The exhibition, spanning four days, covered an area of 40,000 square meters and attracted participation from over 300 high-quality enterprises that represent the entire tea industry chain.

During the opening remarks, Boao Forum for Asia Secretary-General Li Baodong, announced the theme of this year's expo to be "Green Development, Cultural Revitalization." This aligns with global concerns about climate change and China's advocacy for green development and consumption. 

The expo aims to foster industry vitality and facilitate consensus through exchanges on tea culture and the tea industry. A series of high-end and culturally significant tea events were held at the expo, bringing together experts, scholars, industry leaders, and associations.

In 2022, China's tea industry experienced continuous growth, with a tea plantation area of 49.95 million mu (3.3 hectares) and a total output of 3.18 million metric tons of dried tea leaves. 

The total value of dried tea reached a historic high of 318.07 billion yuan (US$ 49.8 billion), marking an 8.62 percent increase. In the same year, China's domestic tea consumption reached 2.4 million tons, with a total value of 339.53 billion yuan.

As an important tea production region and import-export hub, Guangdong province plays a pivotal role in China's tea industry. It is the leading consumer and distributor of tea in the country and has a tea plantation area of 1.49 million mu. The province's annual consumption of tea is approximately 250,000 tons, which contributes nearly 60 billion yuan to the industry's circulation.

The Guangzhou Tea Expo will further promote the development of the tea industry and showcase the allure of Chinese tea.
