On April 7, French President Emmanuel Macron visited Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong province, during his state visit to China. In Guangzhou, Macron visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) Guangzhou South Campus, the Pine Garden, and the Pearl River Night Cruise. Follow GDToday to find out their charms.

Sun Yat-sen University Guangzhou South Campus (中山大学南校区)

SYSU is a preeminent research, academic and cultural center and the premier location for talent development in South China. The university has five campuses in the three cities of Guangzhou, Zhuhai, and Shenzhen.

Its Guangzhou South Campus is also called Kangle Yuan. Traditional Chinese architectural styles have been kept and mixed with Western elements on the campus. From Swasey Hall, now a small auditorium for major academic conferences and speeches, Macron walked along the central axis of the campus, passing several historic buildings.

Made of red bricks, the ancient buildings on the campus are known as Red Buildings. Surveying the huge lawn north of Swasey Hall, these buildings stand on both sides of Yat-sen Avenue, sheltered by the fronds of banyan trees.

Pine Garden (广东松园宾馆)

Located in Baiyun district, the Pine Garden is close to Baiyun Mountain, boasting beautiful natural scenery and the unique architectural style of the Lingnan garden.

Walking in the garden, you will have your eyes filled with lush grass and tall trees, clear waters nearby, and green hills in the distance. The scenery changes as you walk along the path, bringing a nice surprise all the way.

The garden adopts traditional ancient building tile ridges and green-blue glaze, which makes it harmonious with nature.

Pearl River Night Cruise (珠江夜游)

The Pearl River Night Cruise is one of the "Top Eight Sights of Guangzhou". Visitors can enjoy the fantastic night view of Guangzhou, see several historical buildings along the riverside as well as learn more about the culture of this city. Sights on the Pearl River Night Cruise include White Swan Pond (Bai'etan), Shamian Building Complex, Ersha Island, Haixinsha, Canton Tower and so on.

Standing on the deck, you can feel the breeze of the river on your face and hear the sound of water splashing against the side of the ship. The 70-minute cruise will create a memorable night.
