The Lingnan Cantonese Opera Fair series of events opened in Beicun (北村) village, Baiyun district, Guangzhou on November 12.

Beicun village has an inseparable relationship with the shining pearl of Lingnan art, Cantonese Opera. Lan Gui, the initiator of the Barwo Guild (八和会馆) — a vital association for Cantonese Opera artists — was born in this village.

At the fair, 11 phalanxes featuring local folk artists, Cantonese Opera performers, and kindergarteners paraded through the ancient architectural complex of bookstores, ancestral halls, and village passages.

The Cantonese Opera Culture Square in Beicun village also set up interactive booths during the event, including Cantonese Opera mask painting, experiences of putting on makeup and traditional costumes, instruction on opera singing and body movement, as well as cultural creative products.

Since 2018, the Cantonese Opera Fair has been held twice in Beicun village. This year's edition is larger and more diverse, combining parades, performances, exhibitions, and experience activities, attracting over 1,000 people to participate on-site as well as over 60,000 online viewers, showcasing and promoting Cantonese Opera protection, inheritance, and development.
