Persimmons ready for picking in Conghua

UPDATED :2023-11-10

Walking into Guifeng village, Lvtian town (吕田镇桂峰村) of Guangzhou's Conghua district, you can smell persimmons in the air.

Since late October, this small village has blazed with orange-red colour as trees along the road are dripping with plump persimmons, signaling that it is the harvest time.

Most of the persimmon trees here are grown by local villagers and have been existing for decades. Every year, some of the persimmons are picked and sold, either fresh or dried, by the villagers, while others remain on the trees for visitors to appreciate. Many people are attracted to the village to take photos of this autumn fruit.

Guifeng Mountain, where the persimmon trees are planted, is one of the highest peaks in Guangzhou with an altitude of 1,080 meters. It is also one of the birthplaces of the Liuxi River (流溪河). With clean and high-quality water source, favorable climate, and soil with various micro nutrients, the persimmons yielded here are sweet, succulent and fleshy with thin skin.
