Parks in Yuexiu bring surprises to visitors

After weeks of rain, Guangzhou welcomes back the fine weather with white clouds floating in the blue sky and birds flying around and singing. It is a good time to go out and feel the nature. There are some surprises in the parks of Yuexiu district that attract visitors.

1.
Great barbets (megalaima virens) have been found building their nests in Yuexiu Park recently. The bird has a blue-black head, a large yellow bill, and a brown and green body. It is a common resident of broad-leaf evergreen forests.

The great barbet is under national protection as a species with important values for society, ecology and scientific research in China.

The bird is shy by nature and often hides in dense foliage, which makes it difficult to be observed. But it has a loud and distinct sound.

The presence of great barbets is a reflection of the lush vegetation and high forest coverage of Yuexiu Park. Many bird lovers are visiting the park to look for the bird.

2.
Dead trees and branches are turned into beautiful garden landscapes in Liuhua Lake Park (流花湖公园), as the park explores new ways to handle garden waste and make full use of green resources.

Garden designers hollowed out tree stumps and filled them with soil to grow flowers, injecting new life into the dead trees. They also spread pieces of bark on the grassland to create a dry creek and decorated the creek with various garden plants, presenting the scene of a stream of blossoms.
