The Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station, currently under construction in the city's Baiyun district, is expected to open next year, as the second phase of the construction process has now begun.

Phase one consisted of erecting the station's main structure. According to its design, the station will cover an area of 1.1 million square meters, and at launch, the project received more than 44 billion yuan in investment.

The station is expected to become a major transport hub for the city. It will be the terminus of the planned Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway and connect to Guangzhou Metro Lines 8, 12, 22, and 24.

Construction was kicked off in 2019, and at the time, completion was slated for 2022. The China Railway Construction Corporation was contracted to build the behemoth transit node.

Once in operation, passenger rail operations that currently run through the Guangzhou Railway Station and the Guangzhou East Railway Station will be rerouted to arrive at the Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station.
