Traditional shows near and during Spring Festival

Besides the traditional flower fairs, there are still a bunch of activities going on in Guangzhou during the Spring Festival. If you are a fan of flowers, lanterns and lion dances, check out the following activities to find your favorite show.

1. Lantern display in Yuexiu Park 2018春节广州越秀公园灯会

Highlights: With 50 sets of large lanterns, the display is more than a light show. It also comes with a series of other activities, such as singing and dancing performances, painting and calligraphy exhibitions, and lantern riddles.

Dates: February 8-March 11

Admission: 30 yuan per person on workdays; 24 yuan per person during the Spring Festival

2. Floral art exhibition in Yuntai Garden 2018云台花园绿雕艺术花卉展

Highlights: 12 stereoscopic flower beds with local characteristics, three traditional lantern installations and various kinds of flowers.

Dates: February 9-March 20

Admission: 20 yuan per person during the Spring Festival (February 15-21); otherwise 25 per person

Transportation: Take tourist bus 1 (旅游公交1线) to Yuntai Garden Terminal (云台花园总站); or take Sightseeing Bus Millennium City Line (观光巴士千年古城线) to Baiyun Mountain Stop (白云山站)

3. The 24th Guangzhou Garden Expo第二十四届广州园林博览会

Highlights: 61 nursery gardens, 19 sets of public landscapes, flower arrangements and bonsai.

Dates: February 13-March 2

Admission: Free

Address: Haixinsha Island, Ersha Island Art Park, and Dafu Mountain Forest Park in Panyu (海心沙、二沙岛艺术公园、番禺大夫山森林公园分会场)

Transportation: To Haixinsha, take Metro Line 3 or 5 and get off at Zhujiang New Town Station (珠江新城); to Dafu Mountain Forest Park, take Metro Line 3, get off at Shiqiao Station (市桥), then transfer to Panyu Bus No. 9 or 16; to Ersha Island Art Park, take bus b21 and get off at Ershadong (二沙东,传祺公园)

4. Lion dance in Baomo Garden 宝墨园大型岭南醒狮文化演出

Highlights: Traditional lion dance, with performers conducting difficult moves on high piles and steel wires.
Dates: February 16-21, 11-11:45 a.m.; 2:30-3:15 p.m.

Admission: 54 yuan

Address: Zini village, Shawan town, Panyu District, Guangzhou 番禺区沙湾镇紫坭村

Transportation: Take Metro Line 3 and get off at Shiqiao (市桥) Station; leave from Exit D, transfer to Bus Pan 12 (番12路), and get off at Baomo Garden Terminal (宝墨园总站)

5. New Year celebrations in Nanhai God Temple广州南海神庙系列活动

Highlights: Memory games, calligraphers giving out “blessings,” i.e., the handwritten Chinese character “福 (fu)”, as well as cultural exhibitions.

Dates: February 16-18, 10-11:30 a.m.
