If you are going to spend Spring Festival in Guangzhou, you should never pass up a chance to visit one of the city's traditional flower fairs. To Cantonese people, the Spring Festival flower fair is a big deal — an important annual ritual that marks the beginning of Chinese New Year celebrations.

Visiting a flower fair is a must-do for locals who plan to purchase lucky plants, gifts and decorations associated with the holiday. Usually, it's a family activity after the reunion dinner on Lunar New Year's Eve.

Although they're called "flower fairs," the venues offer much more. Besides all the auspicious flowers, there also are traditional food stalls, Chinese New Year gifts and souvenirs (this year, many will be related to dogs, as it's the Year of the Dog).

While the fairs will be crowded, they are a lot of fun and a great way to get into the spirit of China's most beloved festival. They also offer the opportunity to enjoy delicious local food treats or pick up Year of the Dog items.

This year, 11 traditional flower fairs will be held across 11 districts in the city. Most will start on February 13 and last till February 15. On the opening day, citizens and tourists can get free auspicious couplets.

Following is information on each of the 11 flower fairs. Are you ready to pick up your lucky blooms for 2018?
