People can use Lingnantong transit cards to take buses in 21 all prefecture-level cities in Guangdong province by the end of this year, according to officials from the Guangdong Lingnantong Co. Ltd.

Currently, only Shenzhen and Dongguan in Guangdong province have not adopted the Lingnantong card. “This year, Lingnantong will coordinate with the Transportation Department of Guangdong province to assist Shenzhen and Dongguan in adopting the transit card within the year,” said Xie Zhendong, general manager of Lingnantong. This indicates that by the end of this year, the Lingnantong transit card can be used in all 21 prefecture-level cities in Guangdong.

Apart from the physical Lingnantong transit card, a digital version was also launched last September. Users can directly download the card to their phones and top up the card via their phones. The card can still be used even if the phone screen is locked or reset to its default setting. Users can enjoy the same discounts as holders of a physical card, according to Li Zhiming, deputy general manager of Lingnantong.

So far, 18 cellphone models and wearable devices back the Lingnantong card, including the HUAWEI P10, HUAWEI P10 Plus, Honor V9, HUAWEI Mate 9, HUAWEI Mate 9 Pro, Honor 8, Honor V8, Xiaomi 5, Xiaomi 5s, Xiaomi 5s Plus, Xiaomi Note 2, Xiaomi MIX, Smartisan M1 and M1L, OnePlusA3, HUAWEI WATCH 2, Lakala B3 and Lakala ME19B.

In addition, the QR code payment of Lingnantong is being piloted at Gangding BRT Bus Station and people can take buses by simply scanning the code in the future.
