The Saraca asoca, an evergreen tree with bright orange to red blossoms, is now in full bloom in Guangzhou.

Belonging to the Caesalpiniaceae family of evergreens, the Saraca asoca is considered a holy tree in Buddhism. The flamboyant flowers in the trees spread across the landscape in Guangzhou in spring. The best viewing dates run now through the middle of April.

The Saraca asoca trees can be found in many places around the city. They have been planted at the South China Botanical Garden, on Tianyuan Road, Tianhe district. One of these trees was planted by Norodom Sihanouk, the late king of Cambodia, and his wife on January 17, 1986.

Among the other places where you can see the Saraca asoca are Cultural Park at Xidi Erlu, Liwan district, South Sea God Temple on Huangpu Donglu, Huangpu district, Xiaogang Park on Dongxiao Lu, Haizhu district, Huanghuagang Park at Xianlie Zhonglu, Yuexiu district, and the Martyrs Memorial Park at Zhongshan Sanlu, Yuexiu district.
