The Guangzhou authorities said on March 3 the city will strengthen efforts to add more than 10 new international flights and build 10 more high-speed highways to improve integrated transport facilities by connecting ports, railways, subways and highways.
The effort to bolster transportation infrastructure is meant to coincide with the arrival of participants of the 2017 Fortune Global Forum, to be held in Guangzhou later this year. Four new metro lines
Guangzhou traffic officials say Metro Line 9, Phase One of Line 13, the southern extension of Line 4 and Line 14 from Xinhe to Zhenlong will be open to the public by the end of 2017. A total of 13 subway projects are under construction this year.
Ten high-speed highway projects are all progressing smoothly, according to the officials. They include the second phase of Guangzhou’s north third ring road and the Fenghuangshan Tunnel, as well as a ring road project in the northern mountain areas of Conghua district. The Guangzhou traffic department said these projects are expected to be completed this year.
Still, three national railway projects and eight intercity railway projects are well underway. A Guangzhou-Shantou passenger dedicated line has started and an intercity railway from Guangzhou to Qingyuan is planned to be completed. Airport expansion for forum
Guangzhou is now accelerating the expansion of Baiyun International Airport and the construction of a fixed base operator (FBO). A FBO is granted the right to operate at the airport and provide aeronautical services such as fueling, hangaring, tie-down and parking, aircraft rental, aircraft maintenance and flight instruction. The goal is to provide a unique service characterized by the Guangzhou style to business executives, government officials and others who will attend the 2017 Fortune Global Forum. Meanwhile, more than 10 international flights will be added and the flight punctuality rate is expected to exceed 80 percent.
As for port construction, Guangzhou has quickened the pace of broadening the Guangzhou Port deep-water fairway, as well as building the fourth phase of the Nansha port area, an international bulk and general cargo terminal, and the Nansha international cruise terminal, among other projects.
