Free wifi service and three new metro lines are going into service just in time for the coming weekend holiday. Guangzhou metro will begin offering free wifi service on a trial basis this week. The second phase of metro line 6, the first section of metro line 7 and the second phase of Guangfo Metro go into operation on December 28.
These new lines will shorten running intervals, extend the nighttime hours of partial lines, and provide intelligent ticket machines for purchase of metro rides.
Anticipation over free wifi service was finally satisfied when Guangzhou Metro began offering the service on all trains and at all metro stations and tunnels this week. Passengers can access the network by installing an application on their smartphones. During the trial phase, however, the speed of the service may not be stable, as it is influenced by limited underground space and passenger flows. Suggestions from passengers are encouraged to help metro officials improve the service.
Guangzhou metro also announced that its new intelligent ticket machines are being introduced today in all metro stations. The new machines enable passengers to pass through gates by using Union Pay cards with QP (quick pass) or smartphones with NFC.
