The building located on the Pearl River's north bank, the Guangzhou Circle, has held its inauguration ceremony on December 16 after three year’s construction, becoming a new landmark of Bai’etan with its unique golden-ring appearance.

Guangzhou Circle is the world’s biggest building of its shape at 138 meters tall and with 105,000 sq. m of floor area. It has a total investment of RMB 1 billion.

The concept of the golden ring was designed by Italian architect Joseph di Pasquale, adjunct professor at Polytechnic of Milan. His was inspired by circular jade pendants and ancient coins in China. And when the building is reflected on the lake at night, it looks like the Arabic numeral 8, mimicking the shape of a jade jewel of over 2,000 years history, exhibited in the Nanyue King Museum in Guangzhou.

Unlike the common skyscrapers in the shape's of towers or cylinders, this round building is the combination of Italian style and Chinese elements, the designer said.

The building will be used for commerce with the functions of office, research and development and logistics. It will also house the world’s largest plastic raw material trade center.
