The circular building has been mocked as the "copper coin building."

The golden quizzical building has been designed by the Italian architect Joseph DiPasquale from the Milan Technology University and received a lot of public criticism for its unique shape. The building is planned to be the headquarters of the Guangdong Plastics Trade Center and storage. It is expected to put into use this November and companies are being contacted now. All the investment of RMB 100 million has been funded by the property owner - Guangdong Plastics Exchange Co. Ltd.

The owner explained that it is a "Bi (璧)" or "orbicular jade" rather than a "coin" because Bi is circle inside while a coin is square. The digit 8 which is auspicious in China will be seen at night when the building is reflected in the Pearl River.
