By 2015 Guangzhou will open 14 children's parks with two municipal parks and 12 smaller ones in every district.

The two municipal parks are planned to be built in Baiyun District and Tianhe District according to a construction plan released by the government.

Ecological environment and transportation are two priorities in the selection of the right sites. The park in Baiyun District is proposed to be built at Yuncheng Xilu (云城西路) bordering the Baiyun Mountain and near Baiyun Park Station (白云公园站) on Metro Line 2. The other in Tianhe east will sit beside Yangtao Park (杨桃公园) not far from Sanxi Station (三溪站) on Line 5. Both sites are situated amongst big communites.

The drive to build 14 parks comes from the mounting needs of children in Guangzhou. There are 1.46 million children aged 0 - 14 in Guangzhou, accounting for 14 percent of the city’s population. The city's children-intended playfields take up a combined area of only 265,000 sq. m, or 1.85 percent of the total land of Guangzhou's parks. The old and only Guangzhou Municipal Children's Park in Yuexiu District covers 11,000 sq. m, with a maximum capacity of 8,000 visitors.

By the time the new parks open, the old one will be reclaimed by the government for other uses.
