Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation Reveals its Logo, Trophy and Slogan
The Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation, known as the "Guangzhou Award", is an international-level award to promote innovation in the city. On Monday October 9th it announced the results of its search for a logo, trophy and slogan.

The Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation, known as the "Guangzhou Award", is an international-level award to promote innovation in the city. On Monday October 9th it announced the results of its search for a logo, trophy and slogan.

The first session of the award will be held in Guangzhou from November 14 to 17. The chosen slogan is "So Dreams Come True," and the award is co-hosted by United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), The World Association of Major Metropolises and the Guangzhou government.

The competition for designs of the logo, trophy and slogan began on March 28 this year, receiving 148 logo patterns, 26 trophy designs and 1500 slogan suggestions. Xian Jialin (冼家麟) won the logo and trophy designs and Wu Shaoyun (吴少云)'s Chinese slogan and Wu Xiaoling (吴晓玲)'s English slogan were chosen by the judges.


The logo is in blue color. Two Chinese characters of Guangzhou (广州) are shaped like a sky scraper.



The trophy is metal. It is a dimensional model of the Chinese characters for Guangzhou (广州)



The award aims to reward innovations that improve the socio-economic environments in cities and regions, promote sustainability, and hence advance the livelihood of citizens. Presented biennially, the award will encourage and recognize outstanding innovative projects and practices in the public sector.

The committee received 255 candidate projects from 153 cities of 56 countries by September 30. Guangzhou has included several projects in public sectors including improving residence and providing drinking water. In the middle of October, the technical jury including those from the professional fields of social development and city planning will select the 15 nominating cities. Then in the middle of November, the review jury will finalize the 5 awarding cities from them. Each of the winners will be awarded with USD 20,000, as well as a trophy and a certificate. Winners will also be invited to attend events including seminars and exhibitions on urban innovation.
