The first Guangzhou Marathon will be opened for registration as of Sept 16, and comprises of the full marathon and three shorter events, according to the organizing committee.
The competition is confirmed to be held in the morning of Nov 18. It has four events including the full marathon, half marathon, 10 km race and 5 km race.
The official website (www.guangzhou-marathon.com) will open for registration from Sept 16 to Oct 18. The public is also welcome to register through the runners clubs in the city, the competition's roadshow to be held later on and its official Weibo.
The number of applicants for the full and half marathon is limited to 5,000 each, while the 10 km race 6,000 and 5 km race 9,000. The registration will be closed once the quota is full.
The winner of full marathon will be awarded with USD 40,000, the organizer said, while the one of half distance will have USD 600 and the 10 km race champion will have RMB 1,000.
After a test run, the route has been finalized to start in Huacheng Square, going through Liede Bridge, Dongfeng Lu, Guangzhou Bridge, Ersha Island, Pazhou, Canton Tower and end in Haixinsha. The traffic police will control the traffic on the route in sections based on the progress of the competition.
The organizer has invited several professional runners from Kenya and Ethiopia to lead the race. Who will finally come has not yet been confirmed. "But they are surely world-famous runners," the organizer said.
