According to a press release from the French Embassy in Beijing, the visit aimed to prepare for next year's celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between China and France.

There are about 35,000 Chinese students studying in France and about 8,000 French students in China. The visa applied for by Chinese citizens is expected to be obtained within 3 working days. The shortened visa service is initially for businessmen and artists first and will gradually be rolled out to students and travel visitors.
