A French comedy, “The Game of Love and Chance,” (“Le Jeu de l'amour et du hasard”), written by the 18th century dramatist, Pierre de Marivaux, will appear on the Guangzhou stage this weekend.

The play offers its love story in a relaxed and romantic style. It tells the tale of a young couple who are to wed, but have yet to see one another. Prior to their first meeting, each one has a servant take his or her place and then takes the role of the servant, to better observe the one they are to marry.

Director Philippe Calvario offers his presentation of the light comedy for Guangzhou audiences with exquisite costumes and lifelike scenery. He tries to recreate the 18th century era of the play in a way that carries the story's realism to the audience.
