The annual International Light Festival will open on November 18 and run throughout the city for over six months.

A program based on Tchaikovsky’s ballet, “Swan Lake,” will be presented as part of the festival’s opening ceremony at the Guangzhou International Sports Arena.

The theme of this year’s festival is “love of light and shadow.” Events and light displays will take place in Flower City Square, Zhujiang New Town, and seven bridges that cross the Pearl River.

Flower City Square

Thirty sets of light works with nine themes will be displayed in Flower City Square from November 18 to December 4. “Guangdong’s Legend,” a design concept based on the story of the Maritime Silk Road, will show off the historical development of Lingnan culture. It is the first time a four-dimensional (4D) technique will be used to tell the story of the Maritime Silk Road. Visitors can view this light show on the second floor of Canton Tower.

Zhujiang New Town

Zhujiang New Town will glow festively as the festival sheds brilliant lights across the area’s ever-expanding commercial environment. The lights here will be exhibited upon 16 bridges along Liede Avenue, Xingsheng Road, Xingguo Road, Xiancun Road and Huacheng Avenue.

The Pearl Rival

Tourists who take a night tour of Pearl River can enjoy a fancy light show upon LED screens and LED lights that are affixed on the seven downtown bridges that span the Pearl Rival.
