In light of its successful “Spring” ceramics exhibition in 2015, Kui Yuan Gallery welcomes back a group of emerging artists to present another display of ceramic arts. This year, the gallery has chosen the culturally significant theme of “cui" to celebrate with the works of this gathering of talent and craftsmanship. “Tao Cui” features 11 artists who are actively engaging in contemporary ceramic practices and constantly exploring the infinite possibilities of artistic and conceptual expressions. Hence, this exhibition presents dozens of ceramic works to demonstrate the artists’ creative attempts achieved with diverse sensibilities and approaches, and to show forth the pluralistic and open state of development in contemporary ceramic arts.

This curatorial view of a broad range of ceramic works identifies ceramics as a comprehensive medium of extensive artistic complexities and recognizes the juxtaposition of practicality and decoration, genuineness and expressiveness, and representation and abstraction. From daily functional items to fine art pieces, this refined medium embodies some of nature’s most vigorous resources — clay, water, and fire — to embrace the endless possibilities in its journey of contemporary art.
