Organized by Guangzhou Time Culture Complex Art Center and fotoyard.com, Maleonn's retrospective exhibition-the Birdy, kicked off at Guangzhou Time Culture Complex Art Center on August 31, 2013.

This exhibition is the first large scale solo show for Maleonn in Southern China. Using the playful theme "birdy" as a clue, the exhibition will display about 200 works from Maleonn in the past decade: photographs, paintings and installations. It will also launch several art derivatives:limited hardbound picture albums "Maleonn", limited reproduction of paintings, and bird figures.

Giving up his career as a commercial director in 2004, Maleonn has thrown himself into photography and become an independent artist. His background of coming from a thespian family gives his works an incomparable unique charm. He dedicates himself to create a world of imagination by clinging to the "natural fictional sense of reality" in photography.

It is not hard to find a moral of the Birdy in Maleonn's works. With characteristic self-mockery, he often says this "birdy" is a portrait of himself or even of his generation. With a bit of idealism deep inside, they try to fly, but are trapped by their fat bodies. Life to them is just like a clown walking on a tightrope in the cloud. "I want to be a brilliant lunatic in your boring memory" said Maleonn.
