Dancing in water may sound difficult to perform but the result is a compelling spectacle for the audience. The Quorum Ballet from Portugal is a contemporary repertoire dance company in high demand due to their quality and innovative performances. Founded by choreographer and dancer Daniel Cardoso, the company has established itself as one of the most renowned dance troupes in Portugal. This all achieved without any financial support in its first three years.
The company will present "Correr o Fado" to China. The show merges representations of traditional Portuguese culture with the ultimate in contemporary dance conception. In a multitude of movements, sounds and sensations, the dancers present an art filled with beauty and emotion - a delight for spectators' senses and hearts. The group demystifies the nostalgic and melancholic connotations that the Fado usually carries and gives it a modern interpretation that can be appreciated by all.
Fado is a traditional Portuguese music genre that is characterized by mournful tunes and lyrics and can be traced back to the 1820s. Fado represents the soul of the Portuguese people and is inseparable from another important piece of Portuguese culture, the guitar. In 2011, Fado was named as 'Intangible Cultural Heritage' by UNESCO.
